Loovens Looking For Cardiff City Exit ?

Cardiff City defender Glenn Loovens has not signed the three year contract he was offered by the club and is instead holding out for a move to the Premiership.

The Dutch defender, long-time friends with Arsenal star Robin van Persie, has impressed while with the Bluebirds and caught the eye of many. His and Johnson's sentral defensive partnership was the foundation for all our best football last season and he would be a big loss.

With only a year to go on his current deal, it is known that two Championship clubs, including Coventry City, have tabled £1m offers for the defender. These have been rejected and is seems certain Loovens would not leave for another club in the same division.

However, he has high ambitions and is desperate to play in the Premiership, in fairness he is probably good enough and adapted to British football without any trouble. If he were to leave, City could expect a fee in the region of £2.5m which would have to be re-invested in another defender.

Personally, I'd rather offer Glenn an improved wage on a 2 year deal and re-assess at the end of next season. Hopefully, the new stadium and continued improvement on the field could persuade him to stay and maybe we could even offer him Premiership football....

Same as Joe, if they dream of premiership football (which they do) hold out a little while longer and you can be there with CARDIFF. Offer him a new (higher wage) deal ASAP.
