Cardiff City defender Darren Purse was one of the first recruits of the Dave Jones managership at Ninian Park. Since joining from West Brom, Purse has been a great player for us both on and off the pitch.
Few players have maintained the levels of professionalism that Pursey has shown and he remains an excellent leader with strong influence on and off the pitch.
However, last season saw Purse lose his place in the team and he spent much of the season on the bench as cover for Roger Johnson and Glenn Loovens. That also put his position as team captain on the line with Stephen McPhail standing in for much of the season.
Darren Purse remains Club Captain but a recent poll on this Vital Cardiff City website found that many fans believe a new skipper should be appointed - one who will start more games than Purse although he will continue to be a leader off the pitch and offer his advice and experience wherever possible.
Should Purse remain Club Captain ?
Yes 20%
No 78%
Maybe 2%
Despite very even early voting, the majority of fans are against Purse remaining Club Captain. It would surely hurt him to be stripped of the captaincy but the team comes first and Purse may even benefit from the lifted burden.
As for who would take over, a new poll is open inviting suggestions. If there's someone you'd like added to the list, or you'd like to suggest a poll - e-mail Bluebirdshroom.
