Cardiff City To Make Hasselbaink Sweat

Cardiff City have not, as was previously thought, offered a new deal to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after the veterans contract runs out in a few days time. It had been thought that a vastly reduced contract was on offer, based around appearances but Peter Ridsdale confirmed that no offer has been made.

The ex-Chelsea striker will turn 37 next season, and struggled with the pace of the Championship last term. He contributed a number of appearances but rarely looked the potent attacking force he once was - an FA Cup belter against Wolves the highlight.

JFH was an important player to have around the club, highly competitive and experienced. He also managed to stay injury free for almost the entire season but he just didn;t have the edge necessary for a striker at this level.

Hasselbaink's future is very much up in the air. He has been linked with the MK Dons managerial post (vacated by Paul Ince's move to Blackburn Rovers)but that is expected to go to a more proven candidate. Cardiff City are not ruling out another deal for Jimmy - depending on recruitment of other targets. That sounds ominous.

Ridsdale told BBC Sport:

'I've not offered Jimmy a new contract. A lot depends on whether we succeed with other striking targets.'

'If and when anything happens with regard to Jimmy and MK Dons so be it. If he goes there, he'll go with our best wishes.'

A player who in the past has held clubs to ransom over wage demands. Its good to see he's being made to sweat!
