Cardiff City captain Darren Purse has opened up on a frustrating season for the former West Brom defender labelling this campaign as 'rubbish'.
Purse started the season as first choice but we struggled badly for form. His dropping co-incided with an upturn in form and fortunes while Glenn Loovens and Roger Johnson forged a formidable partnership in a more stable City defence.
Speculation has mounted over Purse's position within the squad with many felling him to be error-prone and lacking in quaality. Would cuch a proud and determined player be prepared for another spell on the bench?
Purse told the SW Echo:
'On a personal note I had a rubbish season, certainly below average to tell you the truth and I need to turn it around next time.'
'But Im sure that I can do a job here next season. Its best I forget this season, as I didnt play half the games I should have done, and aim to put that right next time around.'
Purse certainly sees his future at Ninian Park and will be vying to take back his place as well as his captain's armband. He's a good pro, and an experienced leader so the only doubts can be over his defensive capabilities and he has competed at this level for a long time.
Hopefully last season can become a bad memory for Darren. If he re-finds top form next year, we should have a very strong defensive unit from which to build.
