Hammam Hands Timely Boost To Cardiff

Former Chairman Sam Hammam was a much loved figure at Cardiff City, somewhere close to a universally liked hero after he oversaw the climb through the divisions.


However, high over-spending and poor financial control saw him lose much respect. His pride saw him push the club to the brink of financial ruin before he left under a cloud last season.


Following that, a mystery company associated with the Lebanese businessman took CCFC to court and delivered a huge hit to our financial dealings while the matter is sorted out.


Hammam is now a loathed figure in South Wales and has only himself to blame. He claimed to love the club, but his actions counteract that to the extreme.


However, it now appears he is finally ready to let go after he and Peter Ridsdale confirmed they have been talking, and are close to resolving the issues. The timing will give Cardiff fans and players a lift ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup final and Hammam added his congratulations and good luck message in today's Echo:


"The future is going to be good for Cardiff City."


"It`s amazing Cardiff are in the cup final. I`m so happy and I`d really like to see them beat Portsmouth."





I find the timing of this news particularly important and encouraging. It really does suggest Hammam is looking to the future and willing to back down. Previous comments to the media have been hints, denials and far from convincing. The day before our biggest occasion he has spokenly openly and positively - of course, Sam always loved the attention of the media but these comments appear genuine.
