Former Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Alexander will be involved in his own massive game tonight when Rangers take on Zenit St Petersberg in Manchester.
Alexander could not agree a new contract with Cardiff City over the summer, in hindsight a mistake by Dave Jones. He joined Ipswich Town and continued his improvement before the lure of a return to Scotland, with SPL giants Rangers proved too much to resist.
After number one Allan McGregor suffered an injured ankle, Alexander was called upon and put in some impressive performances including key contributions in penalty shoot-outs - his record for Cardiff City was truly appalling!
Cardiff City defender Roger Johnson believes Alexander will cope with the pressures of the UEFA Cup final and that the former Bluebird will have an eye out for the FA Cup Final on Saturday. He told the Daily Record:
'Neil hasn't conceded many and has been a hero in penalty shoot-outs in both the Scottish Cup and the UEFA Cup.'
'I'm sure he'll cope with a European final. It's one of the biggest games in the world but any time Rangers have been under pressure he's stayed cool.'
'All the Cardiff boys will be cheering him on and I'm sure he'll be doing the same for us on Saturday.'
Best of luck to Neil, and the former club of City players Steve Thompson and Gavin Rae.
