DJ U-Turn Over City's Play-Off Hopes

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has performed somewhat of a U-turn overnight after reluctantly accepting defeat in City's play-off push.

A play-off place has only looked a possibility over the last couple of months, and for the entirety it was always remote despite a string of impressive results.

However, with the Bluebirds needing to win the remaining 4 games to stand any realistic chance, a 3-2 defeat at already-relegated Scunthorpe United condemned Cardiff to Championship football next season.

However, Dave Jones didn't see it that way and told the South Wales Echo:

"We keep going. We still have three big matches to play and mathematically it is still possible."

I think most people, including the fans, had given up and saw these words as an exercise to keep minds focussed and prevent complacency ahead of the FA Cup final at Wembley.

However, that now seems unlikely after Jones adapted his stance in the Western Mail:

"Now we`ve got to rely on a couple of teams losing all their games and that is not going to happen, now it is just about trying to finish as high up the table as we can."

Mixed opinions there from the City boss, but we don't need anyone to tell us anyway. We've had an indifferent season in the league and inevitably fallen short.

Still, there's always a cup final and next year to look forward to....!
