Cardiff City To Rue Jones' Fury?

Cardiff City To Rue Jones' Fury?

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones may have landed himself / the club in hot water following comments after the 3-2 defeat to Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Although they had been relegated, Scunthorpe were more than up for the game, squeezing Cardiff hard and putting in a number of hard tackles. Numerous niggly fouls and acts of gamesmanship were going on and referee Phil Joslin was slammed by a furious Jones after the game.

When asked in the post match interview whether he thought the referee had given Cardiff City unfair treatment, Jones replied 'ask him'. A fairly withdrawn comment from the outspoken manager, but a message that conveyed his unhappiness without causing a stir.

However, after a brief pause, Jones went on to say:

'That was the worst display I have seen from a referee for a long time.'

'They have a right to be protected and that did not happen today.'

'I am disappointed with my players. They have got to be stronger and not be bullied out of the game. But we weren't out-muscled, we were out-kicked.'

Jones has been in trouble with the authorities before, and his comments may serve up an untimely reminder that we as a club come under the jurisdiction of the FAW rather than the FA - meaning they would rule on any fine or touchline ban for Jones.

Although unlikely, if action were taken over the comments. Dave Jones himself could be given a touchline ban effective for the FA Cup final - meaning he would be forced to sit in the stands. A fine remains more likely, and a stern ticking off but Jones' record is not good.

The comments are a little disappointing. Of course we want passion in a manager, and someone to speak out when we are treated unfairly but Jones' hot-headedness was ill-advised and badly timed. We wait to see what, if any, action will be taken.
