Cardiff City's much maligned frontline reached a new low last night as not one estbalished striker played more than a few minutes of the second half.
The ineffective Thompson was withdrawn at half time, Paul Parry hobbled off on 48 minutes and Warren Feeney lasted only 8 minutes. Those were the three strikers in the matchday squad.
Hasselbaink of course was suspended while Robbie Fowler's continuing injury problems need no reminders for Cardiff fans. The only other senior striker Matt Green is out on loan at Oxford United.
In fact, the Cardiff team that played the second half read like a who's who of club midfielders! Ledley, Whittingham, Sinclair are three wingers. McPhail, Rae and Scimeca all central midfielders.
Trevor Sinclair was the man tasked to lead the line, he did admirably but it was a pretty tough ask for the veteran with little gametime since returning from knee surgery.
Some of the problems are unavoidable and inherent in having such a small squad. However, Dave Jones has brough a plethora of strikers to the club and very few, Michael Chopra included, have made the grade.
Hasselbaink returns for the Wembley date, we must hope that Parry is also available with Thompson looking toothless and completely lacking in confidence. Warren Feeney has represented Swansea City and is cup-tied.
