Cardiff City 1-0 Southampton

Cardiff City followed up home wins against Hull City and Bristol City with another 3 points against relegation strugglers Southampton.

The Bluebirds survived an early Southampton chance before Steve Thompson was released by Aaron Ramsey (today's stand-in right back) and cut back for PAUL PARRY to finish.

Ledley forced a good save from Wright while a Whittingham thunderbolt flew narrowly over as Cardiff looked the more comfortable.

Southampton were unable to push the pace although they did get the ball into the net after a Roger Johnson error, the goal was disallowed for offside.

The second half continued at the same flat tempo, Southampton naturally tried to forcee the play and enjoyed plenty of possession. However the Saints lacked quality and a cutting edge. One dangerous moment saw Johnson block Stern John well after Loovens missed his header.

Whittingham fired wide but chances were very few and far between. Cardiff were content to amble through the game and rarely showed ambition or attacking intent. City successfully negotiated the 4 minutes added time to record a valuable if not dazzling win.

Capaldi and Ledley recovered from injury to both play the full 90 minutes. Aaron Ramsey filled in well at right-back and looked comfortable all game - including one well timed block in the area.
