Cardiff & Swansea Fight For Williams
Cardiff City and Swansea City again find themselves bidding for the signature of the same defender as Dave Jones and Roberto Martinez both show strong interest in Stockport County defender Ashley Williams.
Cardiff had an offer for Williams rejected in the summer but are keen to take the player on loan now before thrashing out a permanent deal at the end of the season.
Williams has been instrumental in County's good season and they remain almost certain to qualify for a play-off place in league 2.
However, the 23 year old is looking forward to a move - either to the Swans or the Bluebirds - he told the Western Mail:
"It may happen by Thursday, both Swansea and Cardiff have shown an interest and are both massive clubs."
"I don`t really have a preference - I just want to play as hard as I can, and whoever shows an interest, I`ll weigh up the options."
the last time the two Welsh clubs fought over a defenders signature was in the summer of 2006 when Roger Johnson was courted by Cardiff and Swansea City before eventually joining the Bluebirds in a £300k deal - what has turned out to be a superb bit of business clinched by Sam Hammam.
