Purse Disappoints In Stand-In Role

Cardiff City defender Darren Purse has not done enough to reclaim his starting position and Dutchman Glenn Loovens is sure to return for Tuesday's game against Crytal Palace.

Loovens had collected 10 yellow cards, thus incurring an automatic 2 match suspension. Darren Purse returned to the side having waited patiently for his chance.

However, Purse failed to impress in consecutive 1-0 defeats as the team has lost to two clubs embroiled in a relegation dogfight with barely a whimper.

It was thought that Purse's added leadership qualities would be a bonus and a strong return for the captain looked a likelyhood, the ex Birmingham City man having been hurt after being axed.

Saturday's bizarre own goal only added insult to injury and the Johnson/Loovens partnership looks a far better bet. Loovens is stronger and more dominant while Purse looked off the pace in his two game opportunity.
