Cardiff vs Leicester (Match Preview)

Cardiff City play host to Championship strugglers Leicester City this weekend with both sides needing to pick up points for entirely different reasons.


Leicester City sit in 20th place, two points above the relegation zone and having played more games. It has been a disappointing season for the Foxes and they are now on their third established manager of the season, not inluding two sets of caretakers in between appointments.


The new appointment of Ian Holloway from Plymouth Argyle signalled a new era for City but results have scarcely improved and with relegation a realistic possibility - Leicester will be desperate for the points. With an attacking roster comprising the likes of Iain Hume, Matty Fryatt, DJ Campbell, Elvis Hammond and promising youngster Ashley Chambers in addition to new signings Steve Howard and Barry Hayles - firepower does not seem to be the key.


Inconsistency has been a major obstacle for Leicester City. A run of three consecutive defeats was followed by a morale-boosting thrashing of in-form Norwich City, only to be followed by a woeful 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Coventry City.


Former Cardiff loan player James Chambers returns to Ninian Park with the Foxes. Chambers joined on loan from Watford last season and was a solid and dependable performer in the back-line until recalled. Lee Hendrie yesterday joined on loan, the Irishman is not a popular figure with Cardiff fans after a touchline row with Dave Jones following a Stephen McPhail red card when Hendrie was at Stoke City.




Cardiff City are desperately looking to get their season back on track. A superb January saw them climb into play-off contention before a winless February has seen hopes fade and the team slip into mid-table obscurity.


Having lost three from 4 games, Cardiff will be looking to halt the alarming slide and collect all three points. Teenager Aaron Ramsey has been filling in recently and done an excellent job, his creativity will be an asset at home against a struggling side such as Leicester.


Glenn Loovens will sit out the second game of a 2 match ban, Stephen McPhail and Darcy Blake are both carrying knocks while Joe Ledley is ruled out. More team news to follow later.
