DJ Loan Plea Ignored At Cardiff City

Cardiff City have not been able to strengthen their threadbare squad during the transfer window despite the sales of Steve MacLean and Chris Gunter, and the departures of Jason Byrne and Kevin Cooper.

However, Dave Jones and Peter Ridsdale have both pointed to the emergency loan window as a possibility to sign re-inforcements should the need arise.

Recent comments by Dave Jones to the South Wales Echo stated his position:

"There are opportunities to go and get players up to the third Thursday in March if that is needed."

"If we do pick up injuries I would hope we will be able to move and bring in a specific player or players to fill specific roles."

Bringing in a striker on loan remains the priority for Cardiff City and the fans, currently only Steve Thompson and veteran Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink are out-and-out strikers with Paul Parry adding much needed pace in attack.

In addition, Cardiff were dealt a heavy blow last week when Joe Ledley hobbled off in the 0-0 draw against Coventry City. Scans revealed a small tear to the midfielder's hamstring, an injury that will keep him out for at least three and maybe more weeks. It would be madness to rush Ledley back from a hamstring problem, recurrences are common and would cause another lengthy se-back.

That said, Ledley is an influential and consistent player for Cardiff, and this seems exactly the situation Dave Jones mentioned with regards to a loan replacement. However, nothing has come from the club and the quiet is slightly disconcerting.

If nothing can be done for financial reasons, we should know. As it is, Aaron Ramsey filled the gap admirably on Saturday and deserves to continue - but Jones will not want to rush his development. Trevor Sinclair is also returning from injury but has barely played for months and at 34 cannot be expected to be flung into Championship pace action.

There may be work going on behind the scenes, but that seems unlikely. Whether the club knew this all along, and were just hoping we'd forget - time will tell.
