A recent poll on this Vital Cardiff City website invited the opinions of readers as to whether veteran duo Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler should be given contracts for next season:
Contract extensions for Fowler & Hasselbaink?
Suggested By: bluebird04

Yes - reduced wages. 32%

The majority of fans were happy for both players to leave the club at the end of the season and see the tranfers as gmables that failed to pay off but did aid publicity and merchandise sales for the club.
However, a significant number were inclined to give Fowler (32), and Hasselbaink (35) another chance for next season, if they were willing to accept reduced terms. One option would be to give both players a low basic wages but include significant bonuses for appearances and performance.
Robbie Fowler may not play again this season, and must feel he has something to prove at the club. We've given him the chance and despite showing some promise, he has struggled with injury and the latest set-back has been a big blow especially with Cardiff lacking a natural finisher.
Out of the two players, Hasselbaink seemed the more popular to remain next term, despite his advanced years. The veteran ex-Chelsea star has not picked up a single injury since gaining match fitness and has played a significant role for City so far.
